Iso at Norwich House

Hello!
I meant to blog yesterday but then decided to sit and answer all your amazing messages – I hope I caught you all.
Was so lovely to read the thoughts, love, prayers & wishes from everyone.
I’ve given the link to Margie and I am sure she will be really touched as well.

So – you can see from the above photo that Cousin Jeff dropped in a trailer load of wood. Its green wood so will get it stacked now so its at the bottom and can dry out.
We social distance unloaded from either side of the trailer!! ๐Ÿ™‚

So – lets start with an update on covid19 here.
Jeff got the swabs done and the results were very happily negative. So he was allowed back out of the attic. ๐Ÿ™‚
BUT – BOTH hospitals are closing – hopefully closed by now.
Quite the blow for the region. Of all places, our little bit of NW Tasmania has become a worrying hotspot for the virus. So many medical staff down with it.
The general population is not being widely tested I don’t believe – the criteria is quite specific.
So… all the staff AND their families are from now going into lockdown/isolation/quarantine for two weeks while they deep clean, get things back together. So by the time staff goes back… they will know if they are at risk as symptoms should have shown themselves by then
In the last three days we’ve had visits from the SES, Defence and today the fire brigade.
Its as much of a welfare check as a check to see we are here on the property.
We said we are good.
Well… I was until I tried online grocery shopping for the first time.
Now I need therapy and thats two hours of my life I won’t get back!!
What a pain! Not least that they wouldn’t deliver and there are no phone numbers or online chats working.
My lovely cousin Fiona has put her hand up to collect our groceries tomorrow and drop them off and Beau dropped some milk at the door tonight
We have awesome family and friends!!
With that shop we should easily get through the next two weeks with only maybe a milk top up (and knowing Jeff…cereal haha)

All retail shops in the NW have now been shut unless super essential… like supermarkets and chemists.
Rather large fines are being handed out to those who are being too flippant about the rules.

So thats where we are at.

Back to the garden! Yesterday was a lovely day.
I’d collected my snow pea seeds so was time to get this manky mess under control and bedded down for winter

Seven years on and still finding this horrible weed mat! Never again!

Pulling up the snow peas and general weeding was easy… digging out the twitch, as usual, slowed me up considerably!

Support chook was by my side most of the time and gorged herself on the worms!!

I finished up by covering the plot with a generous layer of the cow-poo-straw! Decided to leave it to rest over winter. Should be rather yummy by spring!

The zucchini patch has just about had it – but every now and again a new flower appears!

So I pulled out three of the plants that were beyond it and left the other three for a bit longer.
I did a very half hearted weeding job…

Yah – pretty lame! ๐Ÿ˜€

The last of the corn almost.. so tasty tonight!

Tomatoes from tonights pick – I HAVE to get in and pick properly!!
And cook!!

Anyways, I wonder who will be checking on us tomorrow?
Take care, stay safe and stay healthy!
Cheers!

A happy traveller through life! Right now living in NW Tasmania with a gorgeous Nurse-Husband, a fool of a Siamese Cat and several chickens. We love our fairly simple lifestyle of growing a lot of what we eat and enjoying the stunning surrounds of our little patch.

  1. My experience trying to get groceries delivered sounds like yours. My password wouldnโ€™t work. The password they sent wouldnโ€™t work. And as you say, online chat and phone numbers not working. Thank goodness for my son who will shop and stop by with groceries I need.
    Stay healthy!

    1. Frustrating!!! I can see it being great once working, but with everyone else trying to do the same its a bit messy right now!
Glad you’ve got someone to help out too!! Take good care xx

  2. A local restaurant didn’t want to try to survive with take out, so they closed down. In the process, they put the word out that they had perishable food available. I showed up and received a 50 lb bag of red potatoes and 4 doz eggs along with boxes of chopped veggies, ready for the grill.
Have been sharing / trading with neighbors and friends the potatoes and eggs. For Easter had deviled eggs, and we still have more eggs! They’ve been one of those buy them when you can items in the stores around here.
Since I’m in the risk category, am basically in isolation here. Step outside to front porch to wave at people, rare to see anyone, and observe weather. Then inside to the couch with my knitting.
Take care, from the other side of the big blue marble!

    1. oooo nice that the restaurant made an effort to share out the perishables!! And in turn you being able to share and trade! Thats awesome!
Re the eggs… people were slow to get excited about egg shopping. Too focused on loo paper and pasta.
Mind you buying CHICKENS for the yard suddenly proved impossible!!
I started a new crochet project – its a nice comforting thing to do really… the knitting or crocheting.
Hope you aren’t too lonely with the sudden lack of being able to get out and around like usual!! Its such an adjustment!
      Take care!! xx

  3. I keep seeing a picture of your support Chicken. Do you only have the one chicken or are there more off camera?

    1. ๐Ÿ˜€ Actually we have 11 more! I just have been favouring Support Chook a lot lately. Funny things they are! Will have to get some updated snaps of them!

  4. Good news on the test results! They are really strict here in the States with testing as well. Our state has been on Safe at Home order since sometime in March. The weeks are starting to meld together. Looks like it might be extended. But, the official word has not been made yet. Here online grocery is days out and is a pain as well. I am anxious to get gardening and get outside. Our weather is up and down and now some snow and in the 30s (F). So, I had some parsley seeds and am trying my hand at indoor gardening ๐Ÿ˜‰ I have a house bunny and he likes parsley and cilantro. Enjoying your posts from your side of the world.

    1. Hi Renee! I bet you are very keen to be in the garden again! Esp with all the other restrictions. So hard to get a hold on whats going on when mixed info keeps coming through and keeps changing day to day… just gotta go with the flow I guess! Awwww – cute little bunny! We spoil our fur kids with special food… home grown at that!! Lucky bunny! ๐Ÿ™‚
I do like the idea of ordering the groceries and just going down to collect. I will continue that actually – in a week or so we’ll be allowed out so at least I can collect it. And I find it very stressful going into the shop so just picking up the bags… bliss!! Take care!

  5. Thank goodness he tested negative. Online grocery shopping worked good for me the first time I tried it. I bought enough to stay home for 3-4 weeks. Stay well!

    1. Hi! Glad you’ve got the online shopping sorted easily! Its a great thing to take advantage of. I will certainly persist with it… I don’t mind collecting it… just not keen to wander about the supermarket if I don’t have to!! (We’ve eaten a LOT of the chocolate though… we are going to waddle off out of Quarantine haha)
