Tree’s and Stuff

Hello!!
Today was a delightfully drizzly miserable day. No pressure to go out and work on the tree!!! 🙂
Yesterday was a beautiful day and Jeff and I spent 5-6 hours hauling bits of tree back over onto our property.
Jeff did a lot of chainsawing that cleared up areas so we could get at the stuff being pinned down by big logs.

We are slowly running out of room but happily we’ve just about moved everything from the front.
Then we can concentrate on chipping, splitting and stacking.

The neighbours gateway has been freed up

We’ll need to straighten the fence and pick up the rubbish that kindly passing motorists throw out their window (sigh… how does anyone think thats ok?)

Anyway, the overall job of moving this off the roadside has dwindled dramatically… and yes… we have been feeling it!!
Very pleased to take a slower day today!

I finished the second of the four blankets I’ve been working on! This one is for me! I got to snuggle under it tonight with Pip while I was working on another one. Two more to go then I will allow myself to start a new crochet project!!

Not much else amazing happening here today… working on that backlog of photos, taking treats to the chooks etc. Picked the last apples off one of the trees – probably need to go get the others soon too.
Now… what to do with them all??
I see more kitchen time in my immediate future!

Cheers!

  1. Hello Lisa! So much work with clearing the trees, I’m sure you’ll be glad to see the end of it! But loads (pun intended 😀) of firewood! I was wondering what type of apples you’re growing? The yellow color looks “golden delicious” but the bright pink spots do not. I’m curious as in the U.S. we seem to have only a few types of commercially pushed varieties. I know there are a thousand other types even here, and who knows how many others in the rest of the world. Yours look very lovely.

    1. Hi Samantha!! Happily at this point I am actually enjoying the process of the tree removal (I can’t speak on Jeff’s behalf though haha) I am sure I will be glad to see the back of it all by the time we are done!
Good question re the apples! These were trees we inherited with the purchase of the property. I was assuming they were golden delicious as well. The spots really only come about once they start getting older. Jeff eats them early as he loves the tart taste. I love them better now as they are much sweeter. They also dehydrate better than the red ones we have – they seem to retain their taste better… 🙂

  2. The LUMBERJACK AND JILL have really made progress on that tree
Haul. Sorry people throw instead of thinking about others. Apple butter is a great way to start a day on toast or biscuits. Also you could can them and have Fried Apples or pies. Your pics of your hike were beautiful. Thank you for sharing with us old folks who no can hike!!!😀😀your new snuggle rug is gorgeous!! Love from Ga

    1. Hi Linda!! lol… totally getting in touch with our lumberjack selves 😀 Ooooo yes, thanks for the reminder. Someone else suggested apple butter and I looked it up and it sounded pretty amazing!
Its another gloomy day so I might get kitchen motivated… you never know 🙂
Haha – old folk!!! Stay tuned, I am sure I will get some more hiking posts done at some point!! Have a lovely day xxx

  3. Hello Lisa,
So much progress on that enormous pile of wood. Good for you and Jeff. I Love the afghan it’s beautiful, I’m jealous of your crocheting talents. The apples are good for juice, I used to freeze mine then make apple jelly later when I had the time. We used to make mounds of pie crust, load in the apples and sugar and spices then freeze the pies for later. Once I did 10 apple pies for the freezer. Kids picked, husband peeled and sliced, I made crust. It was a team effort!! No one was sad when I would ask if anyone wanted apple pie after dinner. Good times. Always love your pictures too.

    1. Hi Teresa! Its rather satisfying watching that pile of wood diminish out the front. I can’t wait to start chipping!!
Thank-you re the afghan… I really enjoy the crochet. I find it so relaxing at the end of the day.
Your apple pies sound wonderful!! I really think I need to look into getting the motivation to do something similar. I do like apple pies!! hey… I could even throw in some raspberries since lots of those are still in the freezer!! Oh I am SO FAR behind in everything!! 😀
      Have a lovely day!!

  4. Such beautifully delicate crochet work. Amazing your fingers are so nimble considering your lumber-jacking duties! 😉

    1. 😀 Yes it is a bit of chalk and cheese isn’t it?? Nothing like a bit of variety in life 🙂
