Special

Hi!
Been keeping pretty busy – popping down to Ruby’s place to help Margie.
We are planning on a two day garage sale at Rubys’ home to move on the last of the furniture and bits and pieces.
Its a bit hard… seeing all the familiar little items being put on a table for a few dollars.

Margie has been working hard sorting all the really special stuff which has been sent to family or kept etc.

So… there were a bundle of partly completed rugs… this one fully finished… Margie had put the lengths together and edged it.
The others we might see about using for ‘yarn bombing’ a local tree – just too much work to fix up the dropped stitches and put together as we are not sure who would really want them. All the family has gotten their Ruby-Rugs already.

Ruby got a real kick out of being a little famous via Mavis’s blog and Ruby Tuesday. She enjoyed hearing your comments – got a real chuckle out of it all being pictured and written about.

Margie said I could take this knee rug and give it to one of my lovely readers as a memento if someone was interested.
Keep in mind this was probably one of her last lots of knitting efforts – which she did pretty much blind, so while its not perfect – I think its just amazing she was still doing this almost until the end!

Comment below if you are interested. If more than one person puts up their hand, I’ll do a draw so its all fair and square. Hopefully I won’t have too many problems in getting it posted out to the winner (We’ve had a few postage restrictions due to Covid of course)

Anyway, I am off to bed soon – I posted up on FB about the garage sale and have been swamped with messages of people wanting this and that even before the weekend… which is a bit of a relief as I was worried after all the effort not many would be keen…

Hope you are all doing well and have a wonderful weekend planned!
Cheers!

    1. Hi Lynda! Happy to pop you in the draw. We’ve had a tiring week but the reminiscing has been lovely!

  1. I miss Ruby. Such a trooper, always smiling, always busy! Baking, gardening, knitting, take a little rest and off she goes again. I would love to have something she made but I don’t want to put you through shipping anything to the US. Good luck to all your local admirers!

    1. Samantha, as I said to Renee above… I am happy to pop you in the draw. I don’t mind sending it overseas. I don’t do those things often via the blog, and since its Ruby… lol
      🙂

  2. I admired Ruby from afar. I enjoyed the stories shared regarding nursing (being a nurse myself) and gardening (I’m more of a brown to slightly green thumb). The rug is lovely and makes it all the more special when someone does what they love even when their body makes it harder. Hopefully, a wonderful local would appreciate the rug made with love every dropped stitch and all. I live in the States and wouldn’t want to put you out on postage.

    1. Renee, I’d be happy to put you in the draw if you like. I realise that lots of my readers are overseas… but I am happy to send it anywhere that its wanted as a little keepsake 🙂
(A bar of soap might even get wrapped up in there as well LOL)
We’ve gone over many happy memories in the last week which has been lovely!

  3. i know it may come across as a lot of work, but have you or Margie considered creating an Etsy shop to rehome and sell some of Ruby’s knitted rugs or other knitting supplies after the yard sale?

there’s a whole community of young people on social media that refer to their interests as “cottage-core” or “grandma-core”. it may also be a demographic interested in purchasing handmade rugs and the like.

also good luck with the sale! ive had two this spring already, both with some success and disappointment because of the weather on those days. i’ve had just as much luck putting items on apps like NextDoor since.

    1. Hi Lee – I think we’ll probably keep them aside for a bit until we really decide where they will go. A lady bought a basket of her knitting needles which was a good thing!
I’ll look into some of the things you suggested – thanks so much!
Did you want to go in the draw? 🙂

      1. You’re welcome for the ideas. And yes, please! I’d like to enter if you’re okay to ship to US.

  4. Loved your stories about Ruby. She had a beautiful smile. The rug is really nice. Thanks for the chance!

  5. It’s tough going through the possessions of someone you love. One thing that helped me let go of things is realizing an item does not represent the amount of love I have for the person. It’s hugely generous of your to offer out Ruby’s rug to bring joy to a lucky recipient. (I am downsizing, so will enjoy the picture and your generous sentiment.)

I love meeting Ruby on the blogs and follow along on her adventures and hearing of her past. She was an inspiration. I’m glad she got a kick out of being featured too. She was the gateway that lead me from One Hundred Dollars A Month to find your blog, both of which I enjoy. ❤️

    1. Your idea for re-framing what it means to let go of possessions belonging to a person you love dearly is so lovely. I’ll have to remember that.
