Sad Morning …

Goodbye Support Chook.
Jeff woke me this morning to tell me ‘Support Chook passed in the night’
(He is such a nurse isn’t he?)
Poor little girl. I am not sure exactly why – she was never going to thrive… I actually brought her into the house last night as it was cold. So glad I did otherwise I would have been convinced she died of the cold and that would have been devastating.
As it was, she was in a comfy carrier in the fire warmed house.

She just wouldn’t eat and drink like a normal chook. But she was great company in the garden and a demon on the slugs. I’ll miss her.
And yes… I have cried a lot today over a silly chicken!!

Sorry its been a while since I popped in! I’ve been so … unmotivated?
We’ve hiked a bit, but I haven’t taken the camera along. I’ll have to do that next time its not raining.
We haven’t really done much thats startling!!

Jeff had to go back for another covid19 test this morning. All the hospital health workers need a recent clearance before heading back to work.
The numbers of new cases appearing in Australia is very low – I think less than 90 in the past 7 days.
Some relaxing of rules is slowing coming in, but still keeping with the social distancing and all that.
Japan had very low numbers for a while… but are now jumping up – although by the numbers it is not showing they are testing widely.
The numbers in Spain (where my awesome Aunt lives) are alarming. As is the UK, the USA, Italy, France and Germany. πŸ™
I think our area had some of the strictest lockdowns in Australia – The shops may be able to open again on Monday. Still yet to hear officially.
Our favourite hamburger takeaway shop is closing its doors Friday for good. I feel so sorry for them.

In crafty news – I used the last half of the chunk of beeswax/resin mix to make a large batch of beewraps. Some I’ll use as presents, some for me. πŸ™‚

I’ve only made a few soap batches lately – this one is ‘Raspberry Dream’

I did manage to sell $40 worth to a lady via the local facebook noticeboard.
Our Mothers Day is coming up…
I should try to advertise again.
I do miss the markets!

This Taiwan Swirl’s fragrance is ‘Wasabi’

Then I put together this really loud and obnoxious coloured, rose scented soap!!

Guess who is back next door??
Little Moo needs to be renamed to ‘Enormously Massive Moo’
Nearly trampled the fence tonight when he saw me – looking for his apples and other snacks!!!

Speaking of garden snacks… I scrounged a few more cape gooseberries and a passionfruit!

I hope you are all doing well wherever you are – staying safe and healthy and happily occupied!
Cheers!

A happy traveller through life! Right now living in NW Tasmania with a gorgeous Nurse-Husband, a fool of a Siamese Cat and several chickens. We love our fairly simple lifestyle of growing a lot of what we eat and enjoying the stunning surrounds of our little patch.

  1. Dear Lisa so sorry about your pet chick. It’s not silly to grieve over lost pets. They are just like family. Hope all test come back good for Jeff. Sure are some tuff stuff going these days.
Little moo seems to really enjoy your treats. The soap is beautiful I know will be a great seller when we get to the other side of this mess. Love from Georgia. Stay well and safe

    1. Thank-you Linda! It was weird being in the garden today without Support Chook!! πŸ™
      Jeffs tests all good πŸ™‚
Little Moo is funny – he actually bellows now to get our attention πŸ™‚

  2. Lisa, so sorry to hear about support chook, was hoping she’d get by on slugs, etc. You did a lot for a chicken, I’m thinking most wouldn’t have. As it’s now autumn in your area could you also be having some SADD issues? The decrease in sunlight affects a good number of people (me included). I bought an inexpensive light that counteracts the decrease, just don’t use it too late in the day or you can’t fall asleep! One more question, is little moo a beef cow or a pet? I am surprised to see his return (but very pleased!). I would make a terrible farmer as I’d want to make them all pets!

    1. Thank-you Samantha – I was hoping against hope she’d do ok on the slug diet too πŸ™
I think Jeff looked at the possibility of getting one of the lights you mentioned – to help with the nightshift hours & depression. He didn’t get it but was looking into it.
I am pretty certain that Little Moo is a beef cow… I can’t imagine anyone around here (except us) keeping him as a pet. I try not to think of it and hope when the time comes we are not here to see anything. I think I would need a lot of recovery time from that!!! We love him – he is a bit of a character and we’ve felt sorry for his solitary existence as he is a herd animal.
There is a good reason I do mainly plants!! I too would make a dreadful ‘real’ farmer as every animal would just be a pet. πŸ™‚

  3. i would love to make some of my own beeswax cloth wraps. its difficult with the shops closed to gather fabric and wax at the moment. ordering things online isn’t always easier with some of the shops’ sites. eventually, i’d like to have a little farmers market stand to sell some veg, flowers and other items i’ve created like watercolor postcards and maybe even the cloth wraps?

the shelling peas are having a good week. some have put on a few leaf sections and both those and the sweet peas are getting tendrils to grasp onto the trellis i made.

    1. Hi Lee – thanks re Support Chook πŸ™
I’ll contact the local people who sell the beewrap wax mix and find out if they are still selling. I know they send stuff to Japan – but all that depends on location and cost.
I love using their product as it makes it rather easy just to melt and baste on the fabric!
If they are still doing stuff at the moment I’ll put their web page link up on a blog post.
I think its great fun to have a farmers market stall… Even while things aren’t operating its great to just build up a bit of a stock ready!!
Must be lovely to see the peas taking hold! I enjoy that – early season rewards!

  4. ps. sorry to hear about the loss of support chook πŸ™ it is nice to know that she had a wonderful time in the garden with you and could be warm and cozy in the house last night.

  5. Sorry you lost your little sidekick. You will miss her.
Very pretty new soaps. I think we are all looking forward to the reopening of public places again. You will be pleased to get back to your markets.
    Hugs to you. xxoo

    1. Thanks Judy xx
I’ll keep making the soaps but I think the reopening of markets is a long way off yet πŸ™
Never mind. I’ll have lots for sale by the time we get to it!!
      xxx

  6. All of my neighbors chicken are pets too. We both cried when her big Tom turkey died. We’re starting to gently open up business in West Virginia starting this coming week. I have been working remit, but will be going back to the office every other day this coming week. Stay safe. Your big heart is a good part of why I love to follow your blog. ❀️

    1. Thank-you xx Its so sad to us when our animals die.
I hope the reopening of businesses in your area goes well and sensibly! I think when they relaxed some of the rules up in Qld, there were a good number of people that didn’t behave well. πŸ™ Which will probably mean things being locked down again if they can’t work out sensible and safe behaviour! Sigh.
I think our town is still on track to open a few of the shops again tomorrow. I don’t think I’ll join the shopping crowd for a while though πŸ™‚
