Heart Attack

Oh look at that!! Another plum blossom photo! For which I offer no apology and no sign of ceasing. I am loving it too much. I like to spend a little of my day standing under it looking up! Even in the dodgy weather!
It will be finished soon enough and I’ll turn the lens to something else.

So… why the heart attack you ask??
Yes! Frankie!!! We put her in the garden – she ran about bleating but wasn’t so shook on the tank accommodations at first. I was in and out a bit, then I went to check on her – AND SHE HAD GONE!!! She pushed open the top gate – that actually doesn’t open out -only enough to squeeze a lamb through!!
My heart was fully in my mouth as I raced straight out onto the highway hoping not to see a lamb laminated on the road.
I turned to see her trotting towards me (and road) so shooed her back – she was so close!!!!
She isn’t totally used to me so it was a bit of cat and mouse grabbing her. I tossed her back in the garden, forgetting in my haste to fly out the top gate, the back one was wide open – so she BOLTED straight out that one!!
Who ever said sheep were dumb???
At least this time she ended up at the back of the house – I yelled inside for Jeff to come and help NOW!!! (I put my farmers voice on haha)

Jeff caught her – she was more wary of me – and we stuffed her in her carry box, gave her a bottle then did the veggie patch up like Fort Knoxx.
Soon she was back to bouncing through my cabbages.

I am trying to get a photo of her mid spring with all 4 feet off the ground.

After a while I realised this was not helping me get the garden prepared!
Eventually during one of the heavier rainfalls I caught her and re introduced her to the shelter. She loved it and spent most of the rest of the day in there.

Despite the sticky mud, on and off again rain and lamb distractions, I felt I made good progress to making the garden less overwhelming than I had been feeling. Plus I cleared up rubbishy bits, put all the stakes together and did general tidying too which went a long way to improve the overall look.

I put the tarp over one section – it won’t be needed for a while so figured that might kill off the weeds for me first before later mulching.

So… the area between the poles (if you can see in this rather messy photo) has really good soil. It was all new compost last season and I have topped with that conditioned straw. Its just luscious!
I am planning on planting snow peas here this season. So… I repurposed the sides of the arch that was left here when we moved in but I could never find a spot for it.
Jammed some apple branches down into the ground and staked in the wiggly willow branches that I have been keeping forever and stopping Jeff from chucking them on the fire!

Bit hard to see with the pear tree behind… so I took a dodgy photo from the other way

(The pole on the left is really not that crooked!!!)

Plenty of self seeding parsley but replanted this little fellow anyway.

I had to march Miss Chook back through the garden and out the bottom gate. Clearly I haven’t clipped wings yet.
The girls are laying well.
Luckily a friend wants 4 dozen to do some mad baking so I can move a heap on in her direction!

Lastly… and totally unrelated to gardening – sea urchin photos!
I was trying and failing to get another shot as I have another photo challenge starting in less than a week. I thought I would try to snap some shots of the beautiful urchin we found the other week.

The patterns are so beautiful!

Anyway, off to bed for me.
Frankie will be in in the morning, so I better get my beauty sleep!
Cheers!
