Got Loo Paper?

Hi!!
We had some fabulous rainy gloomy days. Would have been perfect to post process a zillion photos and make soap… but…
Have been crook in bed!!
Think maybe food poisoning? Ugh. Who knows. Anyway, no need for sordid details apart from being happy I bought toilet paper BEFORE the Big Australian Meltdown over poo-tickets.
Seriously – people are having fisticuffs in the supermarkets over it!!
What is going to happen when there is a REAL shortage? (Of anything)
Really shows how badly behaved and selfish people can be which is a bit disappointing.
Even in our little town, the supermarket is being stripped of toilet paper!! I went there for something else a few days back and people were lined up with their trolleys full!! I asked the checkout lady if I got bonus points for NOT buying it 🙂

Anyway, I’ve got the hand washing thing totally covered – since soap covers many available surfaces in the house!!
Above was my last attempt at the ‘kaleidosoap’
Getting better-ish. Will have to develop another tool for this at some point.

This is an odd one – the red colour just disappears in the loaf!! I wrote to the supplier and they said its something they hadn’t come across in 30 years of soaping haha – of course!! Its a neat effect but I did want three distinct layers of colour!!

I am liking this chunky effect

Today I finally got up out of bed – actually I had to go to a different bed at about 5am as I was so sore from being in our bed so long!!
Anyway, got up to see how vertical suited me and it went pretty well.
I did a couple of mild domestic tasks and went outside – so nice to enjoy fresh air!! Also had a much needed shower…. and made soap!! haha

I’ve been dying to put this new one together – I had pre made ‘tube hearts’ to embed into a loaf and had enough extra to cut to pop hearts on top.
The theory is when I cut the loaf, it will show a couple of hearts in the middle…
Can’t wait to see if I’ve got it right or muffed it!

Cheers!

(PS – totally write and tell me if toilet paper is the hot commodity in your town!!)

  1. Hope you’re feeling better! There is a limit here on loo paper, Kleenex, wipes. There is NO hand sanitizer anywhere. Just trying to stay healthy and avoid crowds. Cheers!

    1. Thanks Teri – feeling a lot better this evening! They’ve limited the loo paper here too but to me, 4 packs of 36 rolls is a tad excessive haha. I do need some tissues tho… heading into town tomorrow to scope out the supermarket and see how they are going. Apparently pasta has been a hot seller too!!
Avoiding crowds. Yup! Am with you there! 🙂

  2. good to hear you are on the mend! was worried about you this week, but also thinking with the visiting family & friends and weather, you were likely letting posting take a back seat. i’m sure having the nurse on hand was also helpful at ensuring you were staying hydrated. i’m in the midwest US atm, and so far we have not had any toilet paper shortages. hopefully we dont…. >< i dont regularly buy any more than what i need for the week or the next few weeks, so i would hate to go in and not have anything available.

also the purple and grey, chunky striped soaps are really eye catching! i think of all of the soaps you've made so far, those really appeal to me the most (w/o smelling them of course ^.^)

    1. Hi!! Yes – seems I’ve been quite absent from here of late!! And I do like having my own personal nurse 🙂
Good to hear that your area hasn’t succumbed to the toilet paper madness!! There really isn’t a shortage here – its just the logistics of getting it to the shelves fast enough so the nutty people can grab it all!!
Thanks for your thoughts on the latest soaps! I am enjoying trying new techniques.
Its a quiet night here – maybe I should go for a youtube stroll to get some more ideas! 🙂
Enjoy the rest of your weekend!!

  3. I was at Costco last weekend and they were totally sold out of the Kirkland brand (it’s Costco’s line). They had 1 1/2 pallets of Charmin left – which is $5 more, of course. I bought one anyway. With all the factories closed in China and people going insane, we’re going to see more shortages of things. I hope everyone calms down. I don’t want to be without any more than the next guy, but I’m not going to start swinging in the supermarket just to get what I want… Well, not yet (hee hee :)).

    1. Hi!!
Interesting that you are seeing some shortages! In Australia we’ve got the loo paper (about 60% I think made here) its more getting it to the shops and on the shelves to keep up with mad people snatching it all haha
I keep thinking it will all blow over in a couple of weeks and no-one will buy toilet paper for months!!
Yes… I am sure we will be able to keep our cool even if we do get down to the last roll or two lol

  4. Went to Sams club (like costco) yesterday, here in Dallas, TX usa and they were down to one pallet of one brand of TP and sold out of all the rest! Crazy. Local grocery had none. Luckily I have plenty; I also have a good supply of dried beans, rice, etc.
Just my normal pantry so I don’t feel the need to stock up on anything. Think I’m going to avoid the stores for awhile. Peale are nuts.
    Love your soaps!

    1. Hi Teresa! Its been interesting reading replies to see where people are getting panicky!
My normal pantry is like yours… a good stock of basics. I saw most of the rice in the big packs were out of stock. I did a bit of a wander through the supermarket to see what was going on just out of curiosity.
Annoyingly it probably means my preferred 10kg bag of rice won’t be either available for ages nor put on sale for an eon. Still got plenty so no panicking from me yet 😀
(Now if there was a soap shortage I’ve TOTALLY got that covered!)

  5. I’m in the middle of the US & we had our first confirmed cona-viris victim last week about 100 miles west of us. Hand sanitizer is the only thing we can’t seem to find. I rarely use it anyway though I do keep a small one in my car for when I can’t wash my hands.

I do admit to stocking up a little but I think we’re good.

    1. 🙁 Thats getting a little close to home. Tasmania has had its first confirmed case.
I think we have some hand sanitiser in the car (Jeff-nurse-thing) but don’t use it at home. Soap and water!! (Because we have enough soap? haha_
I think its good to have basic supplies in the house. We generally do – plus its cheaper to buy in bulk and it means less supermarket trips!
(But I firmly draw the line at 4x36roll packs of toilet paper!!!!!) haha

  6. Hi Lisa,

So glad to hear you are feeling better. Sounds like it was a nasty bug!

I hadn’t heard of any shortage of TP till speaking to Jeff yesterday and he was telling me about the problem in Australia. I must look into it when we get home.

Your soap designs are looking beautiful. It must be such fun for you to see how all the different ones will turn out.

    Take care of yourself.

    xxoo

    1. Hi Judy!!
Yes.. a lot better today! Was a pesty few days and a waste of time!! 🙁 Never mind. I got a lot of nice reading done between trips to the loo haha
Ugh – its so stupid this mad rush on toilet paper. There really isn’t a shortage… just the logistics of getting it transported to the shops and on the shelves and keeping up with ridiculous people filling their trolleys with it!
Hate to see how people are going to behave when there is a REAL shortage of something.
Thank-you re soap! I am having a lovely time with it!! Can’t wait to try some more!! Better sell some soon haha
      Talk soon xxx

  7. The history of stocking TP comes from a long ago monologue by the then top nighttime tv person: Johnny Carson. He made a quip about what’s next hording TP. The next day shelves across the nation were cleaned out. Ever since then, in any well publicized product shortage, TP is one of them. We’ve been trained here in the US.
Unfortunately, I’m old enough, to remember watching that show.
Just read an email from a relative that I grew up with that her husband’s business partner has been directly exposed and highly recommended to do a self quarantine. This is Cleveland Ohio. Here in NYS, our governor is having convicts make the 97% alcohol hand wash. Being sold to school and other govt. agencies. With that high alcohol percentage can’t help but wonder how much is getting into the solution and how much is going into the convict. Answers I’ll never get.
Take care and keep writing. Really enjoy your blog.

    1. You always have such interesting snippets of information to share! Thank-you so much. It is fascinating how people react – then follow ‘herd mentality’
Chuckle re the making of the handwash!! May I never be that desperate for a drink!!
I hope your family is doing ok re the exposure… the maths of this virus is daunting.
I strolled down the aisles of the supermarket late this afternoon (Sunday so pretty quiet) just to see what was missing from the shelves! Bread and milk… pretty sure thats just a Sunday thing though… the rice shelves were bare. Loo paper had some packs, tissues were scarce. Oh flour!! No much of that and no bread baking specific flour at all!
I haven’t read the latest news but I think all big gatherings are being banned from now. I’ll have to catch up on the specifics!!
Hope you are having a lovely weekend! 🙂
