Asparagus & Raspberries

Just so you know… I am dying of indecision and procrastination!!
OK… not quite dying. That’s just me being dramatic about trying to choose images to make a calendar for next year… and it has to be done and ordered by tomorrow (well the first lot anyway) because the company I use has the right discount happening now.
So many images to look through and decide upon! Agony!
Anyway, the one above I have chosen to be the front of the calendar because its got fairly good colour and impact!!
Might be a long night! πŸ˜€

I thought it was time to tend to my asparagus! I chopped it all back to nothing. Here’s hoping lots more spears will pop up over the spring!

I gave them a good covering of mushroom compost

And re-mulched with some seaweed.

I am going to have to start cooking some dishes with celery! Or I could also experiment with dehydrating – isn’t celery salt a ‘thing’ ??

So… back to the raspberries.
Jeff was sleeping today, so I was on my Pat Malone to get on with more of the job.

I think I might regret throwing so many old little potatoes in my main compost… hmmmmm

I feel a bit bad yanking them all up when they are trying so hard… but I don’t think they are a good companion plant to raspberries!!!

That took ages!!! I had to pull each lot apart to get rid of the weeds/grass which was a painful job! Hopefully the canes we dug up the other week will bounce back ok. I should have put them in the water barrels. Still… they are pretty tough. I also dug a few more up because they were in the middle of the path or other places that weren’t convenient.

I’ve tied each bunch together and also finished pruning and cutting out old canes from the other strip.
Still so much work to be done here.
Hoping my sneaky chooks won’t get out and into here… I’ll have to keep a good eye on them. I redid fences today. I think I might have finally thwarted the red chook from getting into the veggie patch. A ring necked girl is sneaking through the other side into the house yard. Haven’t spotted how she is doing that yet!! At least she follows me back like a lamb when she’s caught!

Even though the fire in the pit hasn’t been going for a couple of days, there was still enough heat in there to get it going again to burn a bit more stuff! I didn’t really put all that much effort into it though as by then I was a bit weary.

I also picked up another bin full of coffee grounds so that went into the compost, and dug in. Makes it smell so much better!!

Hope your day was fabulous!
Cheers!

    1. Thank-you for that! Sometimes I get so set in my ways I don’t think of stuff like this! I absolutely will put some in the freezer for later!

    1. πŸ˜€ Rhyming slang is awesome – and sometimes totally incomprehensible!! But I reckon fun!
Glad you enjoyed enough to go take a look at where the saying came from!! πŸ™‚ Have a lovely day!!

    1. Thanks Janet! Tulip time around here is pretty nice indeed!!
Thanks also for the tip about freezing celery! Jen below also does this, so its good to get new tips on to store food – I just hadn’t thought about it!!! πŸ˜€ (As I said below, I get so set on what I do I forget to branch out sometimes!!!)
      Enjoy your day!!

  1. If you fancy dehydrating some celery it’s good blitzed as a veggie stock powder base ( along with parsley, carrot, spinach etc). Celery salt is usually celery seed and salt, though there’s no reason not to try dehydrated celery.

    1. Oh!! I didn’t realise that about the seed (Which I have a LOT collected but needs to be cleaned up a bit if I use it for salt.) Good idea re getting it into powder for stock though! πŸ™‚ Thank-you!
