A bit More Gardening

Hello!! Friday! And another sunny day – bonus!
My energy levels are scraping the bottom of the barrel (I suspect I need a B12 boost) but I got out there anyway. I thought pruning would be a gentle start

The salvia got the first haircut… cleared some space for the iris to do its thing.

Then the roses…

I hauled all the cuttings down to the fire and started to burn them along with a few other bits that were hanging about. The fire was still hot from yesterday!

I then thought I would feel better about life if I made a start on clearing a spot for the potatoes.
I had to rake up the area first – so much mess still in there, but decidedly less tree. I am still digging up embedded branches. One will need more than my garden fork to extract!
I then whacked in some stakes to outline the area so I knew where I was working to. Even got a little weeding done before quitting time!

If I am lucky – I might get another decent day tomorrow! Fingers crossed!

Hope everyone has a super weekend planned!
Cheers

  1. Hi Lisa,
I’m so envious of your blue sky day! I’ve been in smoke for the past four plus weeks with wildfires burning throughout Oregon. I really miss seeing the sky and being outside. We’ve had to keep inside since about mid-July, due to unhealthy air quality. Not an easy feat with little boys. I’m glad that you were able to get outside and get some chores done. I hope your energy bounces back!

    1. I have a friend up that way and I have seen photo!! šŸ™ Its awful. How horrible being stuck inside at this time of year, especially when everyone is stir crazy from winter! How long do they estimate this to last?? At least when we had horrible weather, the air was still breathable! You must be the Queen of inventing indoor games and amusements by now!!! Hope it improves soon!

      1. Hi Lisa,
The smoke will continue until the rains come. Could be late September or into October. We’ve been playing lots of board games and putting together puzzles. We’ve done our best to make the most of it. I keep meaning to tell you that we harvested our potatoes a few weeks ago and ended up with about 50! The boys had so much fun digging them out! Thank you for your advice and help with planting.

        1. Hope the rains come and clear the air a bit for you!!
So glad to hear you did well with the potatoes! I can imagine how much fun the boys had! Its my favourite gardening thing, digging up potatoes!
