Baking Days

Hello!
I have been doing a little baking with the girls as its a really good interactive task to get them talking and thinking in English – with the bonus of something tasty at the end of it all!
This chocolate cake was made yesterday afternoon after school – and is now all gone!

This morning I went into Wynyard and picked up the Kinmen Island teachers and drove them into Burnie. The buses here aren’t that convenient and it was nice to have a chat to the two ladies. I have invited them to dinner next Friday and as a bonus they are going to teach me how to make a traditional hotpot meal from Taiwan!

I got back, treated the girls to a cooked brekkie (eggs, bacon and toast) and then because we couldn’t go to the beach until later in the afternoon (tide timings are important here) they decided they wanted me to teach them how to make chocolate chip biscuits!

That was fun! We made a lot and also slipped in the task getting their laundry done too!

The afternoon at the beach was lovely, but will report on that tomorrow as I am pretty tired now!
Tomorrow we are going to markets and another little town to check out shops so the camera will be left behind for once (will probably regret that, but…)

Anyway – I will share this photo of a gorgeous scallop shell I found today! I don’t think I have ever found one with both sides still joined!

Right – going to take a leaf out of Pip’s lazy book and head to bed!
Enjoy whats left of your weekend!
Cheers!

  1. It sounds like you are doing a great job with the three girls. What a treat for them and you to share experiences. Enjoy your time with them, and give Pip a hug – he is such a beauty!

    1. Hi Janet! I hope they are getting a lot out of their visit! Such a shame about the time of year though. It gets dark so early and we’ve had about 80-20% rain verses sun! So much more scope in summer!! I’ll go give Pip a hug now on your behalf! He is curled up on the couch enjoying the fire! 🙂

  2. Baking with them is a brilliant idea- I think you should get a host family award for being so thoughtful.
We’re actually going to have a day of rain here for the first time in a couple of months so I think I’ll catch up on some baking too.
Will you share the Taiwanese recipe? I don’t know much about their cooking at all.

    1. haha – An award! After this weekend I think I need a ceremony as well!! 😀 😀
I hope you enjoy your indoor day! I wish we could have had one of those today too – it was filthy out there today! But with limited time here you just have to go out and do it or they will miss out! (Time for shops and indoor markets!)
Great idea re sharing the recipe! I will do that. Like you, I know very little about their culture and nothing about their cuisine! I am looking forward to it!
