Fridays Footprints: Detention Falls

Paul in handyman mode. Seriously – its just not weird to visit these people and find yourself on their roof admiring the view!! You just go with the flow!!

Usually when I visit my cousins, the White Family, I can always expect the unexpected… like for example going and hanging out on their rooftop, (see above) or on one memorable occasion having one of my international guests run over by a wallaby during a bush walk… 🙂

They live in the beautiful Tasmanian bush, off grid in a house they built themselves and I get a lot of great gardening and other advice from them!

They live by a fantastic little waterfall, Detention Falls and it makes a really nice walk from their place, and a very peaceful place to visit

My cousin Fiona with our guest, Asuka – on a walk into the bush to see the falls

The bush has lots of interesting things if you look close enough

Worms aren’t normally bright yellow in my experience!!

You are greeted with this sign, that all the locals happily ignore, as the area has been part of their lives for generations.

A steep climb down is better on your bottom!

Its a fair climb down to get to the top of the falls!!

We continued to walk down to get a different view of the falls

We are not even at the bottom, but from here its a good view of the falls – Asuka checks out how far down we could go!

I love Detention Falls. It just shimmies down the rocks like a lady in a slinky dress!!

Detention Falls is such an elegant waterfall

Strange little moss art

The walk home is a good opportunity to give Alice, the border collie a good run to wear her out!

Go Alice!

Its lovely to have little secret places to go to, off the tourist track where you can appreciate a bit of nature that isn’t far from your front door!

Have a lovely day everyone

Cheers

A happy traveller through life! Right now living in NW Tasmania with a gorgeous Nurse-Husband, a fool of a Siamese Cat and several chickens. We love our fairly simple lifestyle of growing a lot of what we eat and enjoying the stunning surrounds of our little patch.

  1. What a beautiful, enchanting place! Your photography captures the wildness of the area.

I’m sure the sign is there to prevent folks from expecting compensation from the government when they end up falling and hurting themselves

    1. Thank-you! And I think you have it exactly right.
Originally people just went down for a walk. Then they (council?) got fancy and put in this la-de-dah platform viewing area. Then (not sure how long after) some engineer came in and went ‘eek this isn’t safe’ (ok they probably didn’t say ‘eek’) and helicoptered the structure out and put up the sign!! Ahhhh – tax dollars hard at work!! 🙂

  2. This is the sort of thing we’re hoping to achieve with our day trips – the next one is going to be natural, I swear it. I have to. It’s like a battery that needs recharging! I suspect that when I live somewhere like you all, I’ll feel much more satiated in that regard, but “the big city” is very crowded and oppressive as you know. Thank you for sharing bits like this to help me keep that need at bay just a bit longer until I can make it out to a wilderness!

Also, what is UP with that WORM!? In -my- experience they don’t climb trees either! 😉

    1. It is lovely just to get out into the natural areas!! We did that as much as we could when we lived in Canberra
haha – totally weird worm! I agree
