Slow Sunday!!

Hi there!
Last night I baked a tea cake as my cousin and his girlfriend were popping in to see me today. I thought baking a cake would be civilised! πŸ™‚

It turned out pretty well… and there is none left! Good sign I guess! Jeff took the last bit to work with him.

I squeezed in a little house painting – I had to wash it down first. Hot day again so it dried quickly and was able to get the first coat on in short order. The weatherboards here are a bit dodgier than the other areas… Still, its has come up ok so far.

I went down and collected my lettuce seeds. They are now sitting in a box in the sunroom drying.

Not too much else to share today!
Nice to have a slower Sunday!

Cheers

  1. What is your normal hot summer temperature? When it rained a couple days ago, were you expecting it or was it a surprise? How warm does you house get inside on a hot day, and does it cool off at night? Is there a breeze?

I haven’t seen you mention selling produce outside your house. Have you had extras to sell?

    1. Hi Janet!
I am still getting used to the different temperatures of Tasmania compared to other parts of Australia.
Back on the mainland its not unusual to get long stretches of days that exceed 40C (104F)
Tasmanian summer is a lot cooler – a hot day is in the 30’s but usually mid 20’s is more likely. (25C=77F) Tends to feel hotter than it actually is.
We were only 21C (70F) today but nights cool off considerably here – now its 13C (55F)
Our house is old and seems to keep quite cool during the day – especially the bedrooms/hall area of the house. Its actually quite comfortable for an old place. It also keeps its heat well in winter.
Breeze… lol… usually. But usually more of a knock you off your feet breeze!! The wind has taken some getting used to and even sometimes it even drives the locals (long term) mad! Recently its just been a nice breeze to take the edge off the hot days!
Night is good here. I always need a blanket/heavier cover at night during summer. Its so hard to sleep when horribly hot, but I love snuggling in bed under covers when its cooler, so that is really agreeable to me!
Re stall… I have been thinking about it. I wanted to get more tomatoes to have on the stall before putting it out there. I thought it might be disappointing for people to stop and only have the choice of cucumbers! Now I think I have almost enough to make it interesting for people to browse some produce! Hopefully soon
Thanks for all your questions! Hope all the temperature thing made sense! πŸ™‚ πŸ™‚

  2. Lisa,
I see a lot of tea cake baking over there in Taz country. Did you ever share this recipe before? I would like to make it sometime. It looks divine. ~JD @repurposedgardener

    1. Hi!! Hmmm couldn’t find if I had shared this one, although I was sure I would have!
I’ll do another post with it and do something REALLY clever like put ‘Tea Cake Recipe’ in the title of the post! haha… then I will be able to find these things again!
Its a nice easy hard to kill recipe – one that you would usually have all the ingredients just sitting there! Stay tuned! πŸ™‚

  3. Thank you for answering my questions. It helps to understand what your “hot” is. I’m in Western Washington. It is still so interesting to me when you are opposite seasons. We will be getting spring soon.

    Have a good day,
    Janet

    1. Hi Janet! No worries. And we just got ‘cold’ windy and rainy!!! I am NOT ready for season changes yet!! Although I am sure you are more than ready!! Enjoy your day!
